Klein claws its way to win at Texans 7-on-7

TexasPrepInsider has your 7-on-7 news with the state qualifying 7-on-7 tournament at the Houston Texans practice facilities. We have all of your details from Day 2 of the tournament right here.

Even with the weather throwing a slight damper on the evening and delaying the progress for almost two hours, the show did continue on Day 2 of the Houston Texans 7-on-7 football tournament hosted by Houston Chavez. In a 16-team competition on Sunday morning, it was Klein that won it all with Tomball as the runner-up. San Antonio Alamo Heights finished third.

While there were plenty of touchdowns tossed, there were also a fair share of turnovers as Klein and Tomball battled for the championship Sunday afternoon. But the Bearkats had too much firepower and a few more interceptions, which proved to be the difference in their 33-30 win.

Though the first turnover was in favor of Tomball, it was Klein's Jamie Peebles finding Eric Tomlinson for the game's first touchdown, but it was not his only or last. But Tomball came back and struck quick when quarterback Lance Ester hooked up with Andrew Jet for a score. The Bearkats responded with a Peebles-to-Dekota Barnes touchdown. One play later, Tomball's Caleb Pattison caught a ricochet ball and took it the distance for the score.

In a close game, Klein's defensive efforts came up big when Tyler Caldwell came up with back-to-back interceptions, but neither led to a score for the remainder of the first half.

The second half was more of trading scores. Tomball's Jordan Leslie hauled in quite a few passes, as did Klein's Cole McCall. In the end, it was the defense of the Bearkats that was the key factor in this win.

Klein 33, Alamo Heights 31
The Bearkats scored on nearly every possession as the Mules held tough and fell just short. Some fans felt like this was Klein's toughest game on the evening.

Tomball 39, Cy Creek 13
This was a display of good combination of offense and defensive plays from the Tomball team. Ester tossed out a many of balls to Leslie and Jet, who seemed to stay very active in the win.

Stay tuned as TPI brings you coverage next week from the area's 7-on-7 tournaments.
