Katy earns back-to-back crowns at Terry SQT

TexasPrepInsider has your 7-on-7 news with the state qualifying 7-on-7 tournament at the B.F Terry High School. We have all of your details from Day 2 of the tournament right here.

In the end, it was Katy, Manvel, Cinco Ranch, and Sugar Land Dulles that advanced out of pool play. After a nice round of semifinals games, it was the defending state champion Katy team coming out of the tournament with a win over Dulles. Cinco Ranch finished third.

All in all, Katy was clearly the dominant team throughout the finale. The Tigers were up 2-17 at half.

Offensively, it was Michael Stojkovic led the passing attack. In the championship game, Greg Morris found the zone on many occasions. Zach Swanson and Greg Morris also had a lot of touches.

On the defense, Sam Holl had plenty of pass break-ups and Scott Corbit hauled in an interception and returned for the touchdown to extend the Tiger lead.

Cinco Ranch 52, Manvel 26

The idea of advancing to the state tournament was on the minds of all four teams and the play was evident of that. In the Katy/Manvel game, it was nothing less than a track meet with the two going at it score for score.

Katy was up by more than 20 points for most of the first half, but the Mavericks forced many turnovers on downs to tie the game up at 26 apiece. It was a trading score frenzy throughout until the Tigers got one crucial stop. That was enough for a 53-46 win.

On the other side with Dulles and Cinco Ranch, the Vikings defense stepped up and made a lot of plays and the turnovers led to conversions on the offensive side. Dulles came away with a 32-15 victory.

Stay tuned as TPI brings you coverage next week from the area's 7-on-7 tournaments.
