Greater Houston Week 1 Superlatives: Big Men on Campus

Don of the Big Men: Jordan Jolly, Fort Bend Elkins WR
The match between Elkins and Lamar Consolidated is one that builds a lot of excitement. In 2009, it did not fail to disappoint, as it went into overtime. In the end, it was the Knights with a 40-34 win. In the victory, wide receiver Jordan Jolly had 13 catches for 236 yards and four touchdowns (62, 58, 42, 26 yards).

Next in Line: Josh Huff, Nimitz QB
It was important for Nimitz to pull in its first win with first-year head coach Robert Toomer. For the to come to fruition, quarterback Joshua Huff was going to need to play lights out. In a game that racked up 1,072 total yards between the two, Nimitz walked away victorious with 49-48 win over Clear Brook. Huff had 150 passing yards with three touchdowns and 211 yards on the ground and another couple of scores in the win.

Best of the Rest
Saqwan Edwards, Alvin Manvel WR
Clearly, the best on the field for the Thursday night match up against Clear Springs, Manvel wide receiver Saqwan Edwards hauled in 12 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns in the 35-18 loss to Springs.

Dekota Barnes Klein RB
As one of the Bearkat Big 3 who plays for the Klein team, running back Dekota Barnes made the most of his Week 1 game. Though he only had 63 total yards rushing, he found the end zone twice. But where he earned the paycheck was in the special teams when he returned 99 and 98-yard kickoff returns for touchdowns (four total), in the 38-30 win over Cy Ridge.

Justin Branch, Texas City RB
Most of the offensive production for Texas City comes through the hands running back Justin Branch. In a 28-24 win over Alvin, Branch had 218 yards and three touchdowns.
