Freeman to Check out Mountain West

As signing day draws closer, many of the state's football players have ended the recruiting process by given their verbal commitments. And while the larger number has made their choices, more than a handful are still seeking that right fit. TexasPrepInsider Ahmard Vital has a brief update on a few Houston-area athletes who are still working the process.

News today comes from Pasadena Memorial coach's office

Defensive back Wykie Freeman has reported offers from Utah, UTEP and Northwestern State. According to coach Kevin Etchberger, Freeman will visit the Utes program next weekend for an official. Freeman was a big key in the Mavericks' success in recent years.

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Freeman finished his senior year with 60 tackles, four interceptions (one returned for touchdown) and eight pass break ups.

More Good News for Ellison
Recently, Clear Brook running back Brandon Ellison got word that he was selected to participate in the all-star game the Space City Classic. On top of that, he is still hearing from Army, Navy, Air Force, Utah State and Georgia Tech.

Later in the week, the 6-foot, 205-pound Ellison will pack up with the family to Colorado and check out Air Falcons. He finished with 1,145 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Lauderdale Still Looking
Bellaire wide receiver Derwyn Lauderdale sent Texas Prep Insider a text message recently saying that he has a trip scheduled to SW Baptist. Lauderdale was the Cardinals leading receiver with 31 catches for 473 yards and six touchdowns.
