Team Spotlight: Napavine

Napavine Coach Rex Stanley has a pair of starters returning from a Class 1A state tournament team and is looking to get his team back to Yakima come March.

5-10 senior Mike Godsey (16ppg/5 assists) and 6-3 junior Loren Bluhm (12ppg/6 rebounds) both are back for an encore. Both played well this summer with their select teams and were impressive at various showcase events.

And they led the coach to speak to his team's strength coming in. "Our perimeter will be our strong suit," Stanley told us. But up front the coach has concerns. "Our front court strength is our biggest weakness right now."

"Our summer went very well. We had no real surprises," Stanley said of the off season.

He sees the league as being a two horse race between his own squad and Toldeo. Talk about contrasts, a strong back court on the one hand and a 6-8 man-child in Toledo's Artem Wallace on the other.

Summing up his team, league and the state title picture, Coach Stanley put it all in focus; "Our team will be very good this season as long as we can get some players to bang inside. We are very perimeter heavy. Our league will be very competitive with Toledo, Toutle Lake and White Pass all being real solid. As for the state it begins and ends with Brewster."
