Tuesday playoff highlights

They were making reservations for state as well as making reservations to turn gear in Tuesday night. Some stayed, some went home. Defending 4A state champions Franklin opened the KingCo District playoffs with a 74-52 win over Woodinville.

Senior guard Lyndale Burleson scored 29 while fellow senior John Rogers added 15. Senior quarterback, err forward Matt Tuiasosopo had 23 in the loss. Even numbers were good to the Quakers as they enjoyed a 39-17 advantage in the second and fourth quarters. Periods one and three saw the teams tied at 35-35. Franklin hosts Inglemoor Friday at 8:00.

Redmond jumped on Lake Washington to the tune of 26-9 in the second quarter and hung the Kangs 79-68. Stephen Ishmael scored 20 and Cameron Moffatt added 17. Steve Wiseley had 25 and Ryan Staudacher added 22 in the loss. The Stangs move on to face Garfield a 66-54 winner over Bothell. Omar Thompson dropped 21 on the Cougs. Micah Downs had 21 in the loss.

Inglemoor advanced with a 66-63 win over Roosevelt. 6-2 senior guard Ken Nwaelele (pictured) scored 23 and fellow 6-2 guard senior Steven Anderson added 22. 6-6 junior wing Marcus Williams had 26 in the loss.

O'Dea punched their ticket for a return trip to the Tacoma Dome, clinching a Class 3A state berth with a 58-49 win over Metro League rival Seattle Prep in the semifinals of the SeaKing District Tournament.

The Irish used a 22-8 second quarter run to distance themselves from the Panthers. 6-2 junior guard Mitch Johnson scored 19 points while fellow junior, 6-5 forward Conor Mullen added 13 and 6-4 sophomore forward Michael Duty chipped in with 11. Senior guard Chad Troyer led Prep with 21 points while 6-9 sophomore Spencer Hawes added 11 points.

The Metro League champions advance to face Rainier Beach as the defending state champs topped Mercer Island 56-52 and made their reservations for Tacoma. Junior guard Terrance Williams scored 20. Patrick Frost scored 21 in the loss. MI led 30-27 at the break and maintained a slim 44-43 lead after three periods.

Cleveland knocked out Lakeside 70-56 as Jason Pegues (pictured) and Jamal Weems both scored 15 while Daryl Haskins and Banard Banks added 12 points each. Nick Scott had 14 in the losing effort. The Eagles move on to face Seattle Prep in a loser-out game Thursday at BCC.

Sammamish eliminated Interlake 52-46 behind 14 points from 6-4 sophomore forward Thomas Bright while 6-4 senior forward Jordan Estill and 5-10 senior point guard Colby Wick added 11 points each. The Totems held the Saints to just 11 first half points in building a 26-11 lead at intermission. 6-5 senior wing Brian Burke scored 17 in the loss.

White River is heading back to the Dome following a 60-47 win over Sequim in the West Central 3A District tourney. The 20-3 Hornets trailed by a point at 38-37 entering the fourth quarter but kicked it up a notch to advance to the district title game. Tyler Nixon led the way with 19 points. Matt Finitzer had 13 in the loss.

Renton will be waiting for White River in the final. The Indians hammered Clover Park 76-43 to get a return trip to the Dome. Senior guard Steffan Brown scored 23 and fellow senior Jeff Burns added 20. Kurt Cavalier had 13 in the loss. The district championship game is Saturday night at Puyallup

6-0 senior guard Jamaal Collins (pictured) scored 28 points to keep 2003 state tournament participant Evergreen alive for another state berth with a 74-61 win over Lakes. The Wolverines won it with a 27-11 third quarter. Cortlee Harris added 17 and Ron Rhodes 15. Marcus Orona had 15 in the loss. Evergreen meets Clover Park in loser-out game Thursday at Beamer.

Mount Rainier knocked out North Mason 64-49. Brian Manaway scored 19. Quinton Bright had 22 in the loss. The Rams meet Sequim in another loser-out game Thursday at 8:00 at Beamer.

6-4 senior forward Brady Miller (pictured) went off, scoring 17 of his 30 points in the first quarter as Mount Vernon advanced with a 58-47 win over Mariner in the WesCo 4A District tournament. The 19-3 Bulldogs got out in a hurry but the Marauders, who came in having won 6 of their last 7 games, rallied to cut the lead to 38-30 at the end of the third quarter. MV closed it out strong to clear their first hurdle on the way to the Tacoma Dome. Delvaughn Tinned scored 14 and Tommy Craddock added 12 in the loss.

The Bulldogs face Edmonds-Woodway, a 52-41 winner over Lake Stevens at 2:00 Saturday at Jackson in the district semifinals. 6-0 senior guard Josh Griffin scored 14 and 6-6 senior wing Jason Hopkins added 13 to lead the Warriors.

Mountlake Terrace moved to the semifinals, topping Stanwood 40-32. 6-4 junior forward Mike Boxley (pictured) scored 11. Junior guard Daes Kaufman had 18 in the loss. The Hawks will meet Snohomish as the Panthers got by Kamiak 65-55. Jon Brockman scored 24 and Darrel Martin added 23. Brad Balch had 18 and Gary Rogers added 17 in the loss.

Meadowdale stayed alive in the Northwest 3A District playoffs, knocking out Shorecrest 60-37. 6-7 senior Colin Matteson scored 16. 6-4 junior guard Chris Chase had 12 in the season-ending loss. The Mavs get Ferndale for the third and final berth to state. The Eagles eliminated Sedro-Woolley 59-51 as 6-4 senior Eddie Gallagher scored 16 and senior guard Cameron Dahl added 14. Brent Scheifelbein had 20 in the loss.
