Wednesday playoff highlights

The opening round of the largest Class 4A district tournament got under way Wednesday night with 8 teams getting "Ws" while down in Southwest Washington a pair of Class 3A squads picked up berths to the state tournament with wins.

In the West Central-Southwest District Mount Tahoma moved on, taking care of Federal Way 80-65. 6-8 senior Julio Feliciano scored 26 while Baree Ward added 18 and Gary Ward chipped in with 13. Darius Alo had 20 and Morris Anderson 18 in the loss.

Undefeated Bethel took Mountain View 58-50. Alex Tiefenthaler scored 14 while Jordan Sutton added 10 for the top-ranked Braves. Nik Raivio had 16 in the loss.

South Kitsap beat Rogers 55-44. Jake Beitinger scored 24. Chase Van Cleave had 25 in the loss.

Puyallup topped Skyview 51-48 to advance. Johnny Spevak scored 14 and Justin Terry added 13.

Central Kitsap advanced with a 63-60 win over Kent-Meridian. 6-7 senior Brice Brooks (pictured at left) scored 28 and Neil Fryer added 18. Junior guard Steffan Johnson had 32 in the loss.

Kentwood thumped Foss 89-66. Rodney Stuckey scored 34, Aaron Boyce 18 and Blake Solomon 13. Ernest Williams had 17 and Desmond Martin 13 in the loss. It's KW vs. Mt. Tahoma Friday night.

Bellarmine Prep beat Prairie 57-51. Brandon Stout scored 18 and Thomas Ward added 15. Senior forward Devin Uskoski had a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.

Auburn beat Bremerton 90-77. 6-7 senior Jon Morehead scored 25, senior forward Dan Stafford 24 and senior wing Pace Pendleton 23. Marvin Williams had 37 in the loss.

Mark Morris is headed back to state once again following their 57-44 win over Aberdeen. Junior guard Mickey Polis (oictured at left) scored 24 and Josh Wilson added 18. Darrick Jones had 23 in the loss. The Monarchs meet Timberline for the Southwest District championship Saturday night at Saint Martin's in Lacey.

Timberline got their trip to state with a 51-40 win over North Thurston. Senior guard Doug LaPalm scored 21.

R.A. Long eliminated WF West 65-39. 6-3 senior guard Adam Perry scored 33, 20 in the first half. The Lumberjacks meet Aberdeen in a loser-out game Friday at Columbia River.

Columbia River eliminated Black Hills 39-36. The Chieftains get North Thurston in a loser-out game.
