Swanson makes a verbal

Leigh Swanson, a 6'7" senior forward from Mountlake Terrace was receiving recruiting attention from Division-1 schools such as Princeton, Yale, University of California-Riverside, Sacred Heart and Cornell University. But is staying close to home and has made a verbal commitment to play for the Seattle University Redhawks and Coach Joe Callero.

As junior, Swanson averaged 11 pts and over 5 rebounds a game, while shooting 50% from the field. Terrace went 17-3 in the regular season and were 20-6 overall, making their second consecutive 4A State Tournament appearance.

The lanky Swanson played two summers ago with the Friends of Hoop basketball foundation and last summer was a member of the Seattle "YES" Select team that played in Las Vegas, Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Vancouver, Washington.

Academically, Swanson carries a 3.99 GPA.

Swanson made the decision to attend Seattle University over Princeton, Yale, the University of California-Riverside, Sacred Heart and Cornell University. He visited the campus a couple of weekends ago and was impressed with the atmosphere that students are offered on and around the Seattle University campus. Swanson further noted that Redhawks head coach Joe Callero's drive and will to improve the basketball program was a major influence in his decision to make the early commitment. "During my visit to Seattle U. I found out I really liked the school and the academic opportunities. With the players SeattleU. has and the recruits that are committed, we have a chance to be very good in the future. That is exciting."

He joins another former Terrace Hawk, guard Ryan Webb, at Seattle U.
