The Skyline Spartans have been one of the state's best team this year, regardless of classification. Tonight, they face their first postseason opponent, as Bonney Lake comes to Skyline High. Evergreen State Preps takes a closer look at the game.

Tonight, November 3rd, 2007, 7 p.m. at Skyline High School (Sammamish)

Skyline- 9-0 overall (8-0 in league) in Kingco 3A

Bonney Lake- 7-3 overall (4-3 in league) in SPSL 3A

What's at stake?

A spot in the first round of the 3A state playoffs, as well as a matchup against the top ranked Lakes Lancers next weekend.

The Spartans rolled through a strong Kingco league this year, finishing their regular season undefeated and ranked fourth. Skyline has been led by sophomore quarterback Jake Heaps, who has seen his star rise this year by passing for 1843 yards and 22 touchdowns, while only throwing three interceptions. Gino Simone has been Heaps favorite target this year, and has 42 catches for 939 yards and 14 touchdowns. Skyline also has a productive running game, with running back Tyler Washburn accounting for 700 yards rushing and ten touchdowns. On defense, the Spartans are only allowing 153 yards of offense and less then a touchdown per game. Overall, the Spartans are solid on both sides of the ball, and are primed for the playoffs.

Bonney Lake-

Skyline is not the only team with a quality quarterback, as Bonney Lake's Kyle Yanusevich has over 900 all purpose yards this year, while scoring ten touchdowns. Led by Yanusevich, the offense has been solid this year, averaging over 24 points for game. The defense has been suspect this year, giving up over thirty five points four times this year. That unit will have to play a lot better this week, as Skyline presents plenty of problems on the offensive side of the ball.

Skyline sets up a huge first round match-up with top ranked Lakes next week by downing Bonney Lake, 41-14.
