Auburn Riverside vs. West Valley Live Blog

The girl's side of the bracket has been equally exciting so far this week, setting up for a great weekend of championship basketball. Auburn Riverside and West Valley meet in the first semifinal game of the girl's tournament tonight.

The rest of my game blog did not transfer and somehow was deleted. The game continued on its previous path, with Auburn Riverside finishing on a 29-2 run, winning 62-25. Katie Grad was the star tonight, scoring 23 points and breaking the Auburn Riverside all time career scoring record.

Grad goes to the line and makes both free throws. Grad scores again and is fouled on the next possesions, and makes the free throw. She now has 20 second half points and has completely taken this game over. Cooper scores again after a West Valley turnover. Riverside leads 56-23 and is currently on a 21-0 run.

Grad hits another three pointer to push the lead over 20 to 22 at 45-23. Grad now has 16 points, with 13 coming in the second half.

Givens hits a three to put the Ravens up 42-23 with time running out in the third quarter. AS the lead grows, the Ravens' defense get even more aggressive, forcing even more turnovers before the end of the quarter. Riverside leads 42-23 going into the fourth quarter.

Grad hits a three as the shot clock sounds, and then helps to force a West Valley turnover. Grad scores a lay-up on the next possession, and then gets a steal on defense. Grad is fouled on the next possession and makes 1 of 2 at the line She isn't having a great game statistically, but you can see why June Daugherty is excited for Grad to come to Pullman next year.

Riverside is accumulating a lot of fouls, as they put West Valley in the double bonus in the first half, and already have three in the third. Leah Bealer is fouled for West Valley, and hits 1 of 2. 33-23 AR

Jenkins hits a three for Riverside to put the Ravens up 33-21.

West Valley misses another wide open lay-up. It will be hard to win with this many mistakes.

Curtis finds Sillery on the baseline for a jumper which pulls the Rams to within nine points at 30-21.

Grad fins herself open under the hoop for a lay-up to start the third quarter. Richardson answers with a lay-up for West Valley . Grad is fouled as she goes for another basket and is fouled. She makes both to make it 30-19.

West Valley fans are mad about a traveling violation called against them in the final seconds of the half takes away a basket. Riverside goes into the half up 26-17.

Curtis hits a three for West Valley, and after a missed Grad lay-up, Sillery is fouled while in the double bonus. Sillery hits 1 of 2 to make it 26-15 Riverside.

Taylor Herzog of West Valley is fouled and head sot the line for a 1 and 1. Herzog misses the front end. Herzog makes up for it at the line the next time down the court with two made free throws. Wetmore finds Cooper under the hoop for an easy lay-up. Haley Curtis helps West Valley's cause by making both free throws of a 1 and 1. 26-12 Riverside.

Mercedes Wetmore hits a jumpshot to end the drought. West Valley finally breaks the Raven's press, but a player is called for travelling. Wetmore makes them pay with a three pointer. 24-8 AR

Riverside's full court press causes a five second call and forces a bad pass on consecutive possesions. Grad powers into the key and is fouled in the act of shooting. Grad misses both to keep the scoring drought going in the second quarter.

The first minute and a half of the second quarter passes with no scoring, and Riverside Coach Adam Barrett calls timeout after a turnover.

Quianna Winkfield and Jackson trade buckets on both ends, but it looks like West Valley is starting to get into the swing of things. Jackson misses a lay-up to end the first quarter. Auburn Riverside leads 19-8 after the first quarter.

Jackson hits a three pointer from the top of the key. West Valley puts together a string of two buckets after a lay-up and a Taylor Herzog jumpshot. 17-6 AR.

Cathleen Cooper hits a jumpshot and Given hits a three pointer as Riverside continues to out the heat on West Valley. West Valley finally scores more than five minutes into the game on a Taylor Fannin basket. 14-2 AR

West Valley gets their first chance at points at Katie Sillery is fouled but she misses both free throws. It's just getting worse at a West Valley player is blocked from behind on a wide open lay-up lay-up. Between turnovers and missed shots, West Valley is really having trouble.

Riverside's defense is absolutely suffocating, as Haley Curtis struggles to find any space before being called for a charge. Riverside comes down and hits a jumpshot to go up 9-0.

Riverside's full court press is giving West Valley fits, as Katie Grad easily steals a pass and gives to Jackson for a lay-up. West Valley calls time out down 4-0

Riverside starts the scoring with a Kara Jenkins jumpshot after a great pass from Nichole Jackson. AR 2-0.

Whew! It will be tough to match the intensity of the last game, but this looks to be a match-up of two great teams. The Ravens are defending state champs and are led by super star senior guard Katie Grad. West Valley advanced after an exciting 42-39 win over Seattle Prep last night. Haley Curtis led the way for West Valley with 15 points.
