This was a game of two halves. In the first half, both teams played sloppy and couldn't capitalize on mistakes by the other. A big example of this was Central Kitsap blocking a Gig Harbor punt only to fumble a few plays later.
Both teams managed a field goal in the first half to head into the locker room tied 3-3. Spencer Manjarrez changed the game on one play, by returning the opening kick of the second half for a touchdown. Gig Harbor had captured the momentum and would use big plays to score 21 more points that half.
Central Kitsap threw interceptions on their next two offensive possesions. Gig Harbor would convert both into touchdowns taking a 24-3 lead. The final scoring play was a 77 yard sweep to Troy Castle. Central Kitsap added a touchdown late but this one was long over.
The big name for the Tides is junior Austin Seferian-Jenkins. It was obvious in the first half that CK was going to make it hard to get the ball to him. He found some space in the second half catching two balls and scoring on a 13 yard touchdown. One interesting note is that GH only uses him on defense sparingly. He was very disruptive in limited time and makes you wonder why he doesn't play all the time.
That's it for today, out at Skyline/Oaks Christian game tonight...
