Hopkins Headed to the Farm

Spokane (Wash.) Gonzaga Prep DE Charlie Hopkins committed to Coach Harbaugh and the Cardinal Tuesday afternoon…

"I called coach Harbaugh today after school and committed, he was pretty excited."

Hopkins, a four star prospect, chose Stanford over offers from six other west coast schools; Idaho, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Washington, and Washington State. In the last few weeks, he had narrowed his list down to just Washington and Stanford.

"I made the decision because of the football program and the academics. The combination was what made the decision."

When asked what separated his final two schools, Hopkins only needed one word to answer…

The decision was not an easy one, and he needed some time to evaluate his options.

"I visited Washington, and then one week later I visited Stanford. Since then, I have just been talking to my parents and figuring out what was the best decision for me."

Charlie has the ability to play on either side of the ball but he said the coaches at Stanford want him to come in and play defensive end. Hopkins identified what makes him a good defensive end and what he still needs to work on.

"I think that my biggest strengths at DE are my footwork and that I am very coachable. I would say that the one thing I want to work on this year is my speed. "
