New Edible for 2015: Caraflex Lettage

This new mini cabbage is a longer-lasting substitute for lettuce.

Salads are always a treat, but lettuce sure doesn’t keep long in the fridge. Enter, Caraflex lettage—that’s right, lettage—a nutritious new mini cabbage from W. Atlee Burpee. In addition to staying crisper longer than lettuce, the tender leaves of this variety have a milder, sweeter flavor than other cabbage varieties, making it a good substitute for lettuce in salads and sandwiches. Grow in spring or fall.
