I'd like to propose two stadiums as designated sites for the CC Championship Football Game. In the north, Hughes Stadium on the campus of Sacramento City College seats 20,000+ fans . . . In the south, Bakersfield Memorial Stadium seats 20,000+ fans . . . These two quality sites are excellent facilities to hold championship events . . . The highest ranked team going into the final game will determine the site location for that particular year . . .
Edit: Per bcfan, Memorial can hold 20,000+ fans . . . Edit noted above . . .
Diablos06 – like your ideas – with one change – keep the rotation as we have it today. BTW – you are factually correct about Memorial seating, but only because you put in the “+”. haha Largest Memorial (Renegade) crowd was in 1976 against College of the Sequoias – 21,035. I believe, there have been a few HS games with higher attendance – one in the 23,000 range
I believe AC is right, Weingart stadium holds more than Memorial now.
BC's official capacity is just under 20,000 ever since the handicapped areas were installed during the stadium renovation. The problem with Weingart is that East LA can't even get any of THEIR fans there much less two out of area teams. However, guys like us, especially those in Socal, would go to the game no matter where it was in LA. I love the Elco venue, but it's going down to make room for the new stadium which I believe will hold about 11,000. I believe MT SACs renovation will hold the same capacity, 11,000. Here's a flyover of what the Mounties will get. They deserve it.
Unless BC is in the championship game at home, why worry about capacity? Let these teams play on a neutral field, and reward the location (northern area vs southern area) per the deserved higher ranking team . . . I am really impressed with Sac City; El Camino should have an excellent facility if it's anything like their current field . . . ELAC is in an excellent location for travel, centrally located in the southern section . . . MSAC is probably four-five years away from completion . . . Citrus has great viewing with its steep stadium design . . . You just can't beat Memorial Stadium in Bakersfield for hosting a championship event . . . Our softball team said the Bakersfield facility and staff were just great in hosting the state finals this past spring . . .
GP - good stuff! A question for you . . . How does the NJCAA get away with calling it a “National Championship” game (I know they view themselves as superior to California teams), just by putting NJCAA in front of it? BTW the NJCAA are the ones that pulled out of the Jr Rose Bowl because they only won 6 of the 23 games played against a CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMPION.
in the business world, they say "you are anything you say you are" ..what you point out is the genuine truth, the California Championship is something of major value. But when you compare these other championships, you can see how much effort groups like NJCAA and CIF put into promoting theirs.
imagine what the Cal JC State game could be if it were really promoted. This would benefit everyone (and every school) participating.
Apart from when BC was in the state title game - has anyone drawn better than when Mt. Sac played Butte a few years back at Orange Coast College. There were 4500-5,000 fans at that game because people drove up from SD, the OC hub was solid, and the LA fans drove down. Your thoughts please.
J C - I think the last Championship @ COS was around 6,000 fans(Murph will know for sure) - the record until the game that was NEVER played (according to some) in 2012 at Memorial Stadium BC 34 CCSF 14 - before 16,125 fans
Glenpark is right on.. the C CCAA needs to promote the state game better and a live tv coverage is mandatory. Also... D iablos has the other part correct... the game has to be played on a neutral site whether it is on a rotational basis or awarded to the north and south location on the basis of ranking... but a neutral site.
Wrong Murph. BC only brought up about 5500. Qiut inflating the numbers.
I have been to all of the CCSF title games. At BC anf this game were the top two in terms of attendance. I think when they played Palomar at Visalia was a decent draw. The games in fresno were hard to judge. Baseball stadium with all the seating downstairs. My guess would be 1500 tops.
