Looks like the Mounties may follow the Hornets route and take refuge at a local HS . . . The timeline is fluid, look for the Mounties to be displaced for more years than expected . . . The payoff should produce a state-of-the-art facility, less splinters, for our visiting fans . . . Looking at El Camino, wonder if any other programs in CC football have plans to upgrade, remodel or rebuild their stadium?
I dont know if you heard james that Diablos staged a one man sit in to save Bink hill but needless to say that failed miserably. I heard he was offered a hand full of gentleman club coupons and was never to be seen again.
I dont think the field is gone yet. I heard this will be the last season at the pound and next year they will probably play at Walnut High or something.I believe so far its just Bink hill behind the home stands thats gone.
Word has it that SkubaSteve is driving the streets of So Cal, beware of strangers at your practices fellow posters . . . There was a sighting of him in the Southbay area last week, wonder if he made it to an El Camino practice?
bcfan . . . If any program and/or community could pull off a new stadium, it would be BC . . . You have the community pride, alumni support, local business infrastructure, and a pretty college president to rebuild/remodel a sequel to Memorial Stadium . . .
Even BC wouldn't have the assets to build anything near the venue of Memorial Stadium. If I'm not mistaken, it took about 1.2 million bucks to build it almost 60 years ago. In the early nineties, they figured it would take 10 million...... just to tear it down! That's when they decided to retrofit it, and it should be a Bakersfield landmark for more decades to come.
Trivia note...in 1963 the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers played an exhibition game at Memorial. It was a fundraiser called the Children's Bowl.
