Well, it seems obvious, because no other explanation seems reasonable, that DVC didn't pay their dues because at least 6-8 players should have been on the Region II First team. What a way to hurt the players...over $$$. Especially when JUCO's are struggling financially to keep their sports' teams operational. DVC couldn't schedule home games on Saturdays because it was too costly to open the facility. Also, penalizing teams this way jeopardizes the integrity of the player selection. Shouldn't the best of the best be honored and not selected by default?
I personally dislike this years all-state selections, Andre, and Diante are not present here is the first issue i see. Mccain an all-california team is another issue for me at QB the WR from Mendocino as well was robbed, but hey who knows how they come to these conclusions. On the defensive side, Kyle Todd and Kevin Brown were robbed of all-state honors, maybe because of the schools they attend?? kind of crazy to me. Hartnell and Contra Costa number 1 and 2 Defenses in the state with 0 players named to all-California team, something is wrong.
comet58 I understand that you might be disappointed with the picks for the All-State selection, but don't criticize the kids who were chosen. You say McCain doesn't deserve the All California as QB. This kid makes plays with his legs and arms. He's an all around athlete. He's very much deserving of his accomplishments this year. Don't disregard his athletic talent because of the Contra Costa game. The kid threw 6 picks against Contra Costa when 4 went through the receivers hands. One of those picks were ran for a TD. Then you have 4 missed field goals. They did lose 13 to 10, which Contra Costa had less then a 100 yards in total offense. When you play in the top conference and you throw 340 yards against Butte and 383 yrds and 120 rushing total 503 against CCSF, 326 yrds 141 rushing total 467 yrds against CSM.......those are big numbers.
I "Criticized" nobody, I have an opinion and i exercised it. In MY OPINION Kaehler and Spivey had better numbers. But then again thats MY OPINION for whatever reason no DVC athletes were placed on any all-state teams which i find ridiculous. My opinion had nothing to do with De Anza's loss to Contra Costa.
Last i spoke to Diante he was speaking of a "Pro Day" trying to enter the draft. He redshirted at Oregon, Played for DVC in '10, sat out in '11 and played this year. His eligibility for a Division 1 program is only 1 year, which most prgorams dont waste their time dealing with. I dont know what his future holds, but definitely worth a look!
Numbers don't tell the whole story. Butte was the #1 scoring defense in the NCFA and I would venture they did it against better teams then Contra Costa or Hartnell played against. Comet54 how do you think Hartnell or Contra Costa would do playing in the Nor-Cal Conference? I would say the QB from De Anza was the single best player I saw on offense this year. I think some of the Contra Costa players maybe good, but its harder for me to tell how good they are when they are playing at their level.
