All-American Watch: Scott Cathcart

At the end of August, Allan Hancock WR Scott Cathcart (6-5, 217) was named a JC Gridwire Pre-Season All-American and last week got off to a fast start against Santa Barbara. caught up with the talented wideout recently and he updated us on things including what schools are waiting for before they get serious about recruiting him...

"All of the schools recruiting me said they want to see some more game film of me before they offer me," Cathcart told earlier this week. "They want to see how I handle being the number one guy this year and what else I can do.

"I've still got the same schools looking at me -- San Diego State, San Jose State, Florida International, Cal Poly, Cal, Arizona, Arizona State, Washington State, Washington, Oregon State, the same ones basically.

"USC called and asked coach (Kris) Dutra about me so they might be getting interested too."

Last week against a hapless Santa Barbara squad, Cathcart had 4 receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown in a 51-6 win.

"We only threw the ball nine times in the game so when I got my chances I had to make plays," Cathcart said with a chuckle. "This week we have Pasadena so that will be a good test for us because they always have a lot of talent there."

Cathcart was a solid student while at St. Joseph High School in Santa Maria, California, but was missing a math class so he was unable to qualify for a D-1 scholarship.

As a freshman last fall, Cathcart posted 30 receptions for 545 yards and the one touchdown while missing the last four games due to a PCL injury in his left knee.

He will finish up his AA degree in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
