Blinn DT won't let injury keep him down

Heading into the 2010 season, Blinn DT Jeremy Williams (6-2, 295) was considered one of the up-and-coming players at his position, but an ACL tear early in the second game of the 2010 season means that he will be rehabbing while trying to get a scholarship offer. JCFootball.com spoke with the talented interior defensive lineman and he updated us on things including how his recent surgery went...

"The doctors said it went really well and they are encouraged by how my knee is responding to it," Williams told JCFootball.com over the weekend. "I had the surgery on Wednesday (September 21st) and I'm already walking well without much of a limp and I'm already rehabbing.

"Before the injury, schools were interested in me and I'm still hearing from Kansas State, Ohio, New Mexico and Lamar. I think a lot of schools just want to see how I heal up and then I might see some more get into it."

As a freshman in 2009, Williams played the three-technique, pass-rushing defensive tackle position and totaled 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks while working into the Buccaneers' defensive line rotation.

Coming out of Cypress (Tx.) Creek High School, Williams was a full-qualifier, but was only lightly recruited so he decided to go to Blinn to see if he could earn some bigger offers.

"We didn't do well my junior year and schools just weren't coming to see us, so by the time my senior year came and we were really good, they had sorta moved on from me and the rest of our seniors," Williams said. "I had family here in Brenham and some had gone to Blinn, so I already knew the school and the program they have here is really good so I thought it was the best situation for me."

Williams was hoping to sign with a school in December and he's still looking at doing that and would have three years to play three wherever he ends up if he does go that route.

If not, he will apply for a medical redshirt and return for the 2011 season and see what happens then.

We'll continue to keep track of Williams' progress while rehabbing from his injury and we'll update things throughout the coming weeks and months.
