Co-Lin's Turner directs potent attack

It's easy to quantify the effectiveness of a quarterback on an offense and with the numbers he's put up so far this season, Copiah-Lincoln QB Percy Turner (6-1, 200) has helped lead the Wolfpack to a 6-0 record. caught up with the talented signal-caller recently and he updated us on things...

Turner enjoyed a standout prep career at Jefferson County High School in Fayette, Mississippi. He was so successful that he signed with Alcorn State in order to continue his college football career.

"I couldn't get by the (NCAA) Clearinghouse, so I decided to go to Co-Lin and get qualified," Turner told recently. "I greyshirted in 2008 and that helped me get ready physically and I was able to get ahead on some of my classes and that's really helped me get ready for this season."

As the starter in 2009, Turner managed to complete nearly 62% of his passes for over 1,500 yards with 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions and this fall he's been solid completing 54% of his passes for nearly 1,200 yards, 14 touchdowns and 4 interceptions while rushing for 180 yards and another score.

"I'd say I'm a dual-threat quarterback, but I can make all the throws you want me to," Turner said. "You can have me throw the 'out', the 'dig', the 'slant', anything you need me to throw and I can do it, but I can also keep defenses honest because I can use my legs to make plays."

Recruiting hasn't really gotten off the ground to this point although some schools are starting to show interest.

"My coaches are dealing with a lot of that right now," Turner said. "I know a few schools have called my coaches about me, but they want me to focus on the season and when it's time to worry about recruiting that's when I will get more involved."

This past Saturday, Turner led Co-Lin to a 21-14 win over Pearl River by throwing for 227 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions while completing passes to 8 different receivers.

Turner is on pace to graduate in December and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
