Couch discusses 'Final Four'

With over 20 offers to his name, Garden City DT Maurice Couch (6-2, 295) is one of the top JUCO defensive line prospects in the country. He recently narrowed his list to four and updated JCFootball.com about what each had to offer and why they are in his 'Final Four'...

"Basically, all four of them had what I was looking for in a school," Couch told JCFootball.com. "The coaches are all great at all four of the schools and I really like the opportunity for playing time.

"Now it is going to come down to visits."

The four who made the final cut are Tennessee, USC, South Carolina and Kansas and Couch ran down why each made his final list.

Tennessee - "I have a great relationship with the coaches there. They play in the SEC so it's big-time football and I feel like there is a chance for me to go in there and play early."

USC - "The chance to go to the league (NFL) is probably better there. Coach 'O' (Ed Orgeron) is a great coach and has gotten a lot of guys ready to play at the next level."

Kansas - "They've been on me from day one and that has meant a lot to me. I actually went up there for a visit during the spring and I really liked the staff and what they are building there."

South Carolina - "I love the staff and they play in the SEC. I visited there last weekend and I really liked the atmosphere and just everything about it. It was a great time."

As far as that visit is concerned, Couch said seeing the Gamecocks' 24-21 win over Alabama was probably the highlight of his trip, but it wasn't the only highlight.

"To see that type of game in person was pretty amazing," Couch said. "The atmosphere there was crazy. All the fans were going nuts and it was a great game to boot, so it was something that I really came away impressed with.

"I got to sit down with coach (Steve) Spurrier for about 45 minutes and we just talked about the program and what they have to offer.

"It was a real good visit and I feel really strongly about them right now."

Couch said his planned trip to Mississippi has been cancelled and he will take a visit to USC in November although he hasn't set that up at this time.

He will visit Tennessee on December 3rd and said he'll visit Kansas on January 29th.

"After those visits, I will sit down with my family and make my decision," the Georgia native said. "I'll let the coaches know and then I'll sign on signing day (February 2nd)."

The talented interior defensive lineman greyshirted in 2009, so this is his first season of college football and so far he's been a rock in the middle of the Broncbuster defensive line, racking up 25 tackles, 6 tackles-for-loss and 2 sacks while dealing with double-teams on almost every down.

Couch is on pace to finish his AA in May of 2011 and he'll have three years to play three wherever he ends up.
