Willis is putting up huge numbers for Hinds

Right now, Hinds RB Matthew Willis (5-9, 200) ranks third in the country with 764 yards rushing and is tied for second with 10 touchdowns. That productivity has gotten him noticed by some four-year programs, but he's still waiting on his first offer...

Willis prepped at Puckett (Ms.) Attendance Center and was a non-qualifier. He had a chance to look around, but decided Hinds was the best chance for him to get ready for the grind of a four-year school.

"I wanted to come here to make sure I was ready to play at the next level," Willis told JCFootball.com recently. "They can get you ready physically and they can increase your knowledge of the game, but also in the classroom, they can get your ready for what you have to focus on."

This season, Willis already off to a great start for the Eagles, posting 764 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground for a team that is 4-2 and fighting for a berth in the state playoffs.

"I can run inside or outside, it really doesn't matter to me," Willis said. "I can do both well and they use me that way too.

"We run a spread offense, so I'm catching a lot of balls too. I run hitches, I run swing routes and option routes and just get open as much as I can to help our quarterback."

In addition to his outstanding productivity on the ground, Willis has also hauled in 13 receptions for 174 yards and one touchdown as a receiver as well.

On the recruiting front, Willis is still waiting for his first offer, but he is getting some interest from a handful of schools.

"I've spoken to Texas Tech, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Western Alabama and Jacksonville State," Willis said. "Troy and Ohio are also talking to me a little right now.

"I'd like to have some offers right now, but I'm not going to just jump on the first school to offer me. I want to see what the school is like and meet with the coaches before I do anything."

Willis is on pace to finish his AA degree in May and he will have two years to play two wherever he ends up.
