Lattimore sets first visit

Ventura DE John Lattimore (6-3.5, 250) is having a big season for the Pirates this season and because of that he's already got a couple of offers and recently set up his first official visit. JCFootball.com spoke to the talented pass-rusher recently and he updated us on things...

As a prep, Lattimore was a standout for Lexington (NC) High School, but because of his grades he wasn't able to sign with a four-year school, so he decided to start looking around for the best way he could continue his football career.

"I couldn't find a school with a beach," Lattimore said with a laugh when asked why he made the trek west. "Actually, I just really liked the program they have here and my chances of getting ready to play D-1 football."

As a freshman in 2009, Lattimore was named Rookie of the Year totaling 60 tackles, 5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles and this season he's been just as disruptive for opposing offenses by registering 57 tackles and 8 sacks for a team poised to make a playoff run.

"I'm real quick off the ball, so that's what helps me a lot," Lattimore said. "I rush the quarterback best. It's what I've done well all my life and evertime I put my hand on the ground, I feel like I'm going to 'get home'."

On the recruiting front, Lattimore has offers from Iowa State and Florida International and recently set up a visit with a WAC program.

"I'm all set for a visit to Hawaii on December 4th," Lattimore said. "I know I'm going to visit both Iowa State and FIU, but right now I haven't been able to set one up with them."

In addition to those three schools, Lattimore said he's hearing a lot from schools like Cincinnati, Kansas State, Arizona, Oregon State, Middle Tennessee, Auburn and Louisiana Tech.

"I'm open to everyone," Lattimore said. "Distance (from hom) really doesn't matter that much to me. I just want to find a place that I can enjoy myself at, get my degree and play some football."

Lattimore is on pace to finish his AA degree in May and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
