Memphis reels in East Mississippi safety

As a Preseason JC Gridwire All-American, East Mississippi S Perrance Ward (6-1, 210) had a lot of pressure on him to perform and he did that in spades this season, posting over 60 tackles and six interceptions while patrolling the secondary for the Lions and early Tuesday he decided to end the recruiting process and commit to the school he grew up watching...

"I just wanted to let you know, I committed to Memphis today," Ward told JCFootball.com. "I called them and committed and told them I wanted to be part of what they had going on up there.

"I'm real familiar with the area because I grew up around there and my mom used to live up near there, so I know the school and actually I grew up wanting to be a Tiger, so this is sorta a childhood dream."

In addition to his offer from Memphis, Ward was getting heaving interest from schools across the south including Louisiana-Lafayette, Oklahoma State and Southern Miss along with Kentucky, Western Kentucky and Iowa State.

"I'll be setting up a visit to Memphis pretty soon and then I'll go up and talk to the staff about things," Ward said. "They were excited about me committing though and I like it that I'm done."

As a freshman last fall, Ward redshirted so he had a lot to prove this season and did that by posting over 60 tackles, six interceptions, two sacks and one fumble recovery that he returned 66 yards for a touchdown.

Ward will sign with the Tigers in December and he will have three years to play three once he arrives on campus.
