Things are heating up for Gillespie

Now that his season is complete, Coffeyville DT Tony Gillespie (6-2, 315) has turned his focus to recruiting. Recently, the talented and versatile defensive line prospect took a visit to a Sun Belt school and has one on tap in the first week of December...

"I took an official visit to Troy a couple of weeks ago," Gillespie told recently. "It was a really good visit. The atmosphere was great and I liked the fans and their support of the team and I really liked the staff a lot."

Gillespie had an offer from Troy already and also sports offers from the likes of Mississippi State, Eastern Michigan, Western Kentucky and North Texas and is getting heavy interest from Wyoming, Georgia and Marshall.

"I'm going to visit North Texas the first weekend of December," Gillespie said. "I'm working on setting one up with Marshall too, but other than that I'm not sure which ones I might also visit."

As a freshman playing defensive tackle last fall, Gillespie was solid inside for the Red Ravens, notching 61 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles while earning All-Conference honors for his efforts.

This season, Gillespie played every position along the defensive line, but stayed mostly outside at the defensive end position in the Red Ravens' 3-4 scheme and notched 54 tackles and three sacks.

"Everyone is looking at me as a three-technique, but I can play anywhere a school needs me to," Gillespie noted.

He will finish his AA degree next month and plans to sign during the mid-year signing period and will have two years to play two wherever he ends up.
