Blinn ATH still waiting for an opportunity

This season, Blinn WR Shaun Rutherford (5-10, 195) was the leading receiver for the Buccaneers and his multi-purpose talents seemed poised to gain him attention from some four-year schools. However, recruiting has been relatively stagnant for the talented athlete, but he's hoping things pick up in the near future...

"Things have been good for us, we have our bowl game on December 4th and then I finish up here real soon after that," Rutherford told JCFootball.com recently. "I'm still waiting for an offer, but I have some schools showing me interest. Right now that's about all it is though."

Rutherford said Abilene Christian, Western Alabama, North Texas and Tarelton State have all made inquiries with the latter being his only offer.

"I'm talking to a few of them about visits, but right now it isn't really busy," Rutherford said.

The multi-purpose athlete was a standout at quarterback in high school in Bay City, Texas, throwing for over 3,000 yards his senior season and Blinn used him in different ways during both seasons he spent with the Bucs.

"Shaun is an incredible athlete and he can do it all," Blinn assistant Keith Browning told JCFootball.com in the summer. "We have him at wide receiver, but when he was in high school he for over 3,000 yards at Bay City (Tx.). He could play quarterback at a school, but he'd be fighting against the stereotype of short quarterbacks and we wanted to get his playmaking ability on the field.

"He played some quarterback for us too last year, but receiver is where he'll play at the next level and he can do a lot of things – play out of the slot, play outside and he'll be a great punt and kick returner as well."

Rutherford will graduate next month and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
