MAC trip on tap for Nassau's Vinnie Rizzo

One of the top JUCO pivots this year was Nassau C Vinnie Rizzo (6-3, 275) and he's just now starting to see his recruitment hit full speed. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented line prospect and he updated us on things including which MAC school will get a visit from him this weekend...

"I'm visiting Akron this weekend," Rizzo told JCFootball.com during the week. "I got offered by them and I'm going to check them out and what they have to offer.

"Pittsburgh is also sending me a lot of stuff, Memphis has some interest in me and so does Buffalo. I'm hearing from a lot 1A and 1AA schools like Eastern Kentucky, so things are starting to pick up, but I'm hoping more schools know about me and that they come along and look at me too."

Rizzo was a standout prep at Manhasset (NY) High School, but was unable to qualify for a scholarship so he headed to the school closest to his home.

"Nassau is a great program and I already knew that and then throw in the fact it was close to home, it was the right place for me," Rizzo noted.

Rizzo redshirted in 2008 and then started the first four games of the 2009 season but tore the meniscus in his left knee and missed the rest of the season.

"I had the surgery to fix it and I stayed healthy the entire season this year and got All-Conference, so I'm healthy and ready for what's up next for me," Rizzo said. "I can do it all -- snap, make the calls, pass-block, run-block -- I feel comfortable doing it all, but I'm physical and the coaches like the way I play the game and my mentality."

Rizzo is on pace to be able to sign starting December 15th -- the start of the mid-year signing period -- and said he hopes to make a decision in the next week or so. Wherever he ends up, Rizzo will have two years to play two once he steps on campus.
