Fely makes his choice

One of the top tacklers in the JUCO ranks this year was San Diego Mesa LB Josh Fely (5-11, 220). The versatile tackling-machine had two good seasons with the Olympians and over the weekend he made a decision on which college he'll be playing football at over the next couple years...

"I visited UTEP this weekend and I committed to them while I was there," an excited Fely told JCFootball.com. "My parents actually drove there to go on the visit with me and they were in the meeting with the head coach (Mike Price) when I committed.

"My mom cried and I'm not going to lie, I shed a tear or two myself."

Fely started both outside and inside in his two seasons with Mesa, but was a standout in the middle this season posting 104 tackles, 14.5 tackles-for-loss and one interception.

He said the Miners are looking at him to play the same position and that was one of the selling points in him committing.

"It was everything really," Fely said. "The coaches were great and I really bonded well with the players while I was there.

"I like their plans for how they want to use me and what they want me to do and I'm ready to come in and contribute while I'm there."

Fely committed to UTEP over offers from Eastern Michigan, Utah State, Boise State and Nevada.

He plans to sign his letter-of-intent on Wednesday (December 15th) and he will have three years to play two the moment he steps on campus.
