Garden City's Johnson will sign with Troy

One of the more intriguing wideout prospects in the JUCO ranks this season was Garden City WR Corey Johnson (6-0, 190). His brother Ronald Johnson is a standout with USC and he too will be playing D-1 football next season after committing to Troy and he plans to sign with them later today...

"I'm headed to Troy to play ball," Johnson informed JCFootball.com earlier this week. "I'm signing with them on Wednesday.

"The atmosphere there, it's just as good as any major school out there - Ohio State, USC, Michigan -- I mean they really have a passionate fanbase and I liked that a lot.

"They just had more going on than Arkansas State, where I visited this past weekend, so I just thought it was the best place for me."

Johnson led the Broncbusters with 47 receptions for 500 yards and five touchdowns and that productivity plus his natural athleticism drew attention of several programs including his two favorites.

"I had offers from Troy and Arkansas State and Idaho and I was getting looks from schools like Bowling Green and North Texas," Johnson noted.

The talented wideout redshirted in 2008 and played free safety in 2009 before settling in at wide receiver this fall.

Once he enrolls at Troy, Johnson will have two years to play two.
