Ventura's Lattimore makes his choice

This past week, one of the top JUCO defensive end prospects left on the board made his decision and Ventura's John Lattimore (6-4, 250) couldn't be happier about it. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented edge player and he updated us on how things transpired and what led him to end the recruiting process so abruptly...

"I just called East Carolina and told them I was coming," Lattimore told JCFootball.com. "I had taken an unofficial to North Carolina and I had trips to Middle Tennessee, Hawaii and Iowa State all set to go, but there was just something about ECU that I couldn't deny.

"I called coach (Ruffin) McNeill and he said he was real happy and that he felt I made the right decision. He's looking forward to getting me out there and plugged into their defense."

As a freshman in 2009, Lattimore was named Rookie of the Year totaling 60 tackles, 5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles and he followed that up this past season, posting nine sacks to go along with 57 tackles and 15.5 tackles-for-loss from his defensive end position.

"I'm real quick off the ball, so that's what helps me a lot," Lattimore said. "I rush the quarterback best. It's what I've done well all my life and evertime I put my hand on the ground, I feel like I'm going to 'get home'."

Lattimore is on pace to finish his AA degree in May and he will have three years to play two once he arrives at ECU.
