Small to visit SEC school this weekend

The past two seasons, Hartnell LB Keiro Small (5-9, 250) has put up huge tackle numbers for a team that doesn't produce a lot of D-1 athletes. However, because he lacks the ideal size for a middle linebacker, most schools have passed him over. However, this weekend he will visit an SEC school who likes him on the other side of the ball and he could walk away with an offer following his trip...

"I'm visiting Arkansas this weekend," Small told JCFootball.com recently. "They like me at fullback because of my quickness and my blocking ability.

"I played linebacker and some fullback at Hartnell, so I really don't mind playing on either side of the ball. I just want a chance to play and help a team win.

"They said they want to get me there and that there is a chance they could offer this weekend. I hope they do because I think it would be great to play SEC ball."

The Maryland native was a non-qualifier out of high school and he only knew of one JUCO on the east coast, so he followed some friends out west to continue his football career.

"Everyone I knew that went JC, they all went out to California," Small said. "I talked with the coaches at Hartnell and it just felt right so I decided to go out there and play ball."

As a two-year starter on defense, Small put up huge numbers, racking up 109 stops as a freshman in 2009 and 120 this past season.

"I have good instincts and I can read plays well," Small said. "We also had good scouting reports and that helped me a lot too."

With his size and 4.7 speed, Small is a player who could excel on either side of the ball and he said he hopes to get an opportunity to play D-1 football so he can prove the doubters wrong.

"I think I got passed over mostly because schools want the 'cookie cutter' type player," Small said. "I can play the game and I love football, so I am always studying and working. No one will outwork me."

Small plans to sign with a school on February 2nd and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
