WAC visit on tap for Kapono this weekend

Anyone who watched Mt. SAC this year would tell you that DT Kapono Asuega (6-0, 260) was the engine that kept the Mountie defensive line going. His non-stop motor and knack for getting into the opposing offense's backfield helped his team to their second-straight National Championship and now he's looking for a D-1 program to call home...

"I'm visiting New Mexico State this coming weekend," Asuega told JCFootball.com recently. "I met with their staff here at Mt. SAC a couple of weeks ago and it went well. They haven't offered me yet, but they like me and want me to come up for a visit."

Other than his heavy interest from the Aggies, Asuega has heard from schools like Middle Tennessee, Oregon State, Hawaii and FCS power Gardner-Webb as well.

"I just want an opportunity to play ball," Asuega said. "I feel like I can help someone out, but I just have to find the right opportunity."

As a sophomore this fall, Asuega showed his outstanding quickness and strength, posting 27 tackles, six tackles-for-loss and five sacks while playing in the middle for the Mounties.

"I played the three and the one-tech spots for us this year," Asuega noted. "I have a quick first step and I play hard and I play all the way to the whistle.

"The coaches like my instincts and my explosion and I hope that helps me get some more attention."

Asuega is on pace to finish up his classes in May and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
