Golden West DT will sign with the Vandals

It was only recently that we spoke with Golden West DT Dontae Scott (6-4, 290) and at that time he was still showing patience in the recruiting process. However, after thinking things over, he and his fiance decided he had all the information he needed and he chose the one school that he feels he could help out right away...

"I committed to Idaho," Scott told Monday evening. "I actually made the decision this morning at 2 a.m. and then when I woke up I called the coaches and told them I wanted to commit.

"They were real excited about it and about me coming to play there.

"Kansas State was really serious about me, but they just signed a guy from (Mt. San Antonio) and they wanted to bring in a couple more guys. At Idaho, you only have one or two guys from last year and I feel like I will have a chance to go in there and play and help them right away."

Scott was a beast for Golden West this past season, posting 31 tackles, 6.5 tackles-for-loss and five sacks helping his team post a 6-4 record in the regular season.

"I mainly played on the nose in our base scheme, but against passing teams sometimes I played the three (technique) so I could rush the quarterback," Scott said. "I do well against the run or the pass. I just use my size and strength to beat the guy in front of me and just make plays for my team."

Scott adds his name to a growing list of JUCO players who have chosen Idaho as Southwestern DT Aaron Lazaro and Butte offensive lineman Brady Lisoski and A.J. Jones are all expected to sign with the Vandals next week.

Scott will finish up his AA degree in May and he will have three years to play two once he arrives in Moscow.
