Lopez could wait to sign

A linebacker who can play inside or outside is a luxury any program would love to have at its disposal and Cerritos' David Lopez (6-3, 235) is just such a player. After two solid seasons in the middle for the Falcons, the sure-tackler has three offers to choose from, but may wait and sign later than this Wednesday as he has started to see things pick up with three Pac 12 schools...

Lopez prepped at Garfield High School in Los Angeles and was a non-qualifier. When he went to find the right JUCO program, he said Cerritos just felt like the best situation for him and he couldn't be happier with his decision.

"It's a good program and I really liked the coaches a lot," Lopez told JCFootball.com. "I really enjoyed my time here and I feel like the experience has prepared me for the next step."

As a two-year starter for the Falcons, Lopez manned the middle of the Falcons' defense, totaling over 50 tackles, two sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries as a freshman in 2009 and followed that up with a team-leading 107 stops this past season with 10.5 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

With that productivity and to go along with his ideal size and 4.7 speed, Lopez has three offers to his name and is seeing attention from three Pac 12 schools as well.

"I have offers from Liberty, Portland State and San Jose State right now," Lopez said. "I visited Liberty back in December and I was at Portland State on January 21st. I was supposed to visit San Jose State this past weekend, but something came up and I couldn't make it so I am probably going to try and reschedule that, but we'll see.

"I will probably sign late because I'd like to visit them and then Oregon, Oregon State and USC are all starting to show me some interest and I want to give them a chance to look at me too."

While he is an ideal fit at middle linebacker due to his physicality, Lopez said he is more than willing to move outside if need be.

"I don't care where I play really, just whatever helps me get on the field faster," Lopez said. "I like playing the middle because I've been doing it all my life, but I can play outside too, so however I can help my team, that's what I will do."

Lopez already has his AA degree and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
