West LA DB Kevin Ayers to Visit ASU

Safety Kevin Ayers (6-0, 205) had two standout seasons, one for Pasadena CC and one for West LA College. JCFootball.com learned recently that the talented defender has two FCS offers that he is considering, but with Arizona State coming into the picture, he's decided to put his decision on hold to see what the Sun Devils have to offer...

Ayers, the younger brother of former UCLA Bruin LB Akeem Ayers, prepped at Lynwood (Ca.) High School and was a non-qualifier, so he headed to the JC ranks in order to continue his football career.

"I was a two-year starter," Ayers told JCFootball.com. "I played mostly linebacker as a freshman in 2009 at Pasadena and then this year at West LA, I mainly played free safety, but they rotated me up to play some strong safety too.

"Arizona State is looking at me as a strong safety, but they may like me a little as a nickel linebacker, so I'll probably find out a little more about it when I go visit them this weekend."

Ayers had a solid freshman season, but this year he managed to post over 70 tackles, two interceptions and a sack for a team that went 4-6.

"Coach (Greg) Burns is the main coach that I've been talking to, but I've talked to three coaches there," Ayers said. "I talked to them on signing day actually, last Wednesday, and they all told me they liked me a lot and the way I play, my toughness, and they said they want me to come up and visit so they can give me a closer look.

"I'm heading up there this Friday and I'll just see what happens."

Should the Sun Devils pass on Ayers, he does have two FCS schools to fall back on -- Eastern Kentucky and Northern Arizona -- although he said he hopes he gets the chance to play Pac 12 football.

"I know I can play at that level, I just need the chance to show it," Ayers noted. "I'll see where things stand on Sunday when I leave and then I'll have some things to think about."

Ayers will finish his AA in June or later in summer and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
