2012 Preview: L.A. Pierce S Gerald Bowman

Big, physical safeties that can roam the field and be an enforcer are something lots of four-year schools are after and, with two offers already on the table, L.A. Pierce's Gerald Bowman (6-1, 215) promises to be a highly sought-after prospect this year. JCFootball.com caught up with talented prospect recently and he updated us on things including what sets him apart from all the rest...

Bowman attended a prep school in North Carolina and decided to head west to play JC football when a couple teammates gave him a call.

"They wanted me to join them out here," Bowman told JCFootball.com recently. "I came out and I've really liked it a lot."

As a starter for the Brahmas this past season, Bowman notched 58 tackles, one sack and one interception while playing both the free and the strong safety positions.

"In our defense, you have to play both safeties," Bowman said. "A lot depended on the formation we were lining up against and sometimes the team we lined up against.

"I can play both pretty equally, so whichever one a team needs me to play, that's what I Will Do."

Recruiting has already started picking up for Bowman since the end of the season with the talented defensive back pulling in offers from Arizona State and South Florida and several more schools appearing to be very interested.

"I have those two offers, but a lot of other schools seem like they could be close to offering," Bowman said. "Florida International is showing a lot of interest and so is Miami. Cal likes me a lot and I'm heading up there for their Junior Day next month.

"Oregon has also been talking to me a lot, so that's another school showing interest."

Bowman is working toward being able to graduate next December, allowing him to sign mid-year, and he will have three years to play two following the 2011 season.
