Wilson will be one to watch this year

Jones Count JC has a history for producing some very talented players who go on to greatness in D-1 football as well as the NFL. This year is no different and one player to keep an eye on this year is LB/DE Anthony Wilson (6-4, 235). The talented defender signed with Southern Mississippi out of high school and could end up back there, but not without a fight from some very tough opponents…

Wilson prepped at Midfield (Al.) High School, just outside Birmingham and signed with Southern Miss after being courted by schools from all over the SEC, ACC as well as the Big 12.

"When we all figured out that I wasn't going to qualify, they sent me to Jones because of the program here and the coaches here," Wilson told JCFootball.com. "I got here and I got right to work on things, especially on the football field and now I'm ready to have a big season and get ready for the next level."

As a freshman for the Bobcats last year, Wilson was solid, posting 16 tackles and 3.5 sacks while playing in a reserve role.

"I specialize in rushing the quarterback," Wilson said. "That's what I do best, but because I'm being looked at by schools as a 3-4 outside linebacker, I've had to work on my drops and that's something I'm going to focus on this spring and summer.

"When I got here, all I had ever done before was rush the quarterback because the schools I played against all threw it, but once I got here I had to get better against the run and become a more complete player, so that is what has helped me a lot."

When it comes to recruiting, Wilson said he already has an offer from Southern Miss who want him to honor his previous commitment, but Florida State has also made it known they are giving him a long look too.

"Southern Miss wants me back and I like them a lot too, but I will keep my options open for a while," Wilson said. "I want to let schools see me and recruit me and then I can make my decision again, but this time I'll be ready to go right away."

Wilson is on pace to finish up his AA in December and he plans to sign with a school mid-year and will have three years to play two following the 2012 season.
