Big Ten visit on tap for Grand Rapids DE

One of the top unsigned JUCO pass-rushers in the country , Grand Rapids DE Carlton Johnson (6-3, 240), will be visiting Minnesota this weekend. JCFootball.com caught up with the talented defensive line prospect and he updated us on things...

"I'm visiting Minnesota this weekend," Johnson told JCFootball.com. "I've been talking to them since about Signing Day (February 2nd) and they wanted to bring me up there to get a look at me and also to talk to me.

"I visited Western Michigan unofficially back in January and I also have Miami (Oh.) that I'm talking to and Jackson State has offered and I'm probably going to schedule a visit with them soon."

While the Golden Gophers haven't offered, Johnson said there's no question he's headed there if they offer.

"I'm not going to lie, if they offer, that's pretty much where I'll sign," Johnson noted.

As a freshman in 2009, Johnson totaled 11.5 sacks and 60 tackles and this season, while he had more tackles (72) his sack total dropped to 8.5.

"I improved as a pass-rusher, but I had a guy next to me who was a lot better so he took some of my sacks," Johnson said. "It's okay though because it helped our team and that's what I'm all about.

"I want to get sacks, but if my pressure helps my teammates get sacks, that's just as good."

Johnson is on pace to finish up his AA degree in May and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
