2010 Position Review: Linebackers

Linebacker is traditionally a position where JUCO players can come right in and play right away for a four-year program. This year should be no exception as some very talented prospects signed with schools looking to fill holes in their linebacker corps and they should be big producers this coming fall...

Blinn LB Princeton Jackson (UNLV)- Jackson didn't put up huge numbers for the Bucs, but he was a solid contributor at all three linebacker positions while he was in Brenham. Posted 53 tackles and 7.5 sacks from his outside linebacker spot in 2009 and then put up 58 tackles and 6.5 tackles-for-loss last season as an inside linebacker. Should be able to start right away for UNLV and be a big contributor this fall.

Southwestern LB Thomas Tutogi (Washington)- As a full-qualifier, Tutogi led the Jaguars, as well as the rest of the state, with 120 tackles including 17.5 tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks and two interceptions. Played the middle for Southwestern, but is slotted to play outside for Washington.

Coffeyville LB Steven Jenkins (Texas A&M)- Put up huge numbers for the Red Ravens last fall -- 99 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and six sacks -- and should be a force once he gets comfortable in the Aggies' scheme. Could play any one of the linebacker spots for A&M, but should be a nice fit at the strongside linebacker position.

Lackawanna LB Josh Francis (West Virginia)- Outstanding two-year performer for Lackawana who notched over 100 tackles and 13 sacks during his time there. Francis had schools from across the country, but chose West Virginia because of it's close proximity to home as well as the opportunity to play right away for the Mountaineers.

Phoenix LB Alonzo Highsmith (Arkansas)- Talented linebacker who put up big numbers both seasons for the Bears totaling 165 tackles and eight sacks and was named an All-American following the 2010 season. Highsmith will man one of the outside linebacker spots for the Razorbacks this fall.
