Arkansas Baptist S looking for a breakout

He only managed to see time on special teams as a freshman in 2010, but with his physical skills and athleticism, Arkansas Baptist S Zephyr Jean (5-10, 193) promises to be a prospect to keep an eye on this fall...

Jean prepped in Miami (Fl.) and wasn't recruited much due to some qualifying issues.

"My test scores weren't very good," Jean told JCFootball.com. "I was okay grade-wise, but I just couldn't get my test scores where they needed to be, so I just started looking for a junior college to play at and I was told by my coaches that Arkansas Baptist was a good school to look at because they play the Texas teams and that they play really good football in the conference."

Jean played mainly on special teams, but said this year he's expecting to play the strong safety spot for the Buffaloes.

"Spring is a big time for me because it is when I can prove I'm ready to play," Jean said. "Schools will be coming through and looking at us and if I play well, I feel like I can get the attention of those coaches and show them how I can help them."

Even though he isn't the biggest physically, Jean said that doesn't detract from him making his presence felt on the football field.

"I'm a big-hitter," Jean said matter-of-factly. "I'm working on being quicker and getting bigger and faster, but one thing I always have done well is as a big-hitter."

Jean is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
