Wangara holds the edge for CSM

In College of San Mateo's 3-4 scheme, having big, physical defensive ends is a must and Barrett Wangara (6-2, 280) is just such a player. JCFootball.com spoke to the talented defensive line prospect recently and he updated us on things...

Wangara prepped at Capuchino (San Bruno, Ca.) High School and went a bit unnoticed until he talked to the CSM coaching staff.

"Not a lot of coaches really came out to see us," Wangara told JCFootball.com recently. "I talked with the coaches here at CSM and they were all great and I really liked their program, so I just decided to give it a shot here."

As a freshman in 2010, Wangara held down the strongside defensive end spot for the Bulldogs, posting 23 tackles and 1.5 tackles-for-loss in nine games for the Bulldogs.

"On the strongside, you have to anchor against the run and I feel that's what I do best," Wangara noted. "I can get after the quarterback, but I'm a run-stopper, first and foremost and I take pride in doing that."

On the recruiting front, Wangara says he hasn't spoken to any coaches as of yet, but said his coaches have been on the phone with some.

"My coaches told me some schools are looking at me, but that I just need to have a good spring in order to get some looks," Wangara said. "I've had a pretty good offseason and I think I could have a real big season this fall."

Wangara is on pace to finish up his AA in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
