Rhaney sees recruiting pick up

Ellsworth has been loaded with talented skill-position players the past couple seasons and that again is the case this year, but the men paving the way for the Panther offensive attack are also garnering some D-1 interest and tops on that list is Demetrius Rhaney (6-3.5, 305). The talented prospect has been talking to a few schools recently and he updated JCFootball.com on where things stand...

Rhaney prepped at Stranahan (Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.) High School and signed with Alabama A&M, but when he figured out he wasn't going to qualify he decided to head to Ellsworth with friend and high school teammate Willie Tindal.

"Me and Willie were friends and he was coming up here to go to school, so I sorta tagged along and it's been a real good move for me," Rhaney admitted to JCFootball.com. "There isn't anything here to distract you from what you should be doing.

"I work out, I go to school and I play football. That's it and that's all I need to be focusing on."

As a freshman last fall, Rhaney started every game at right tackle and is making the move inside to guard this year.

"I can play anywhere along the line," Rhaney said. "We have some good players here, so they are trying to get the best five on the line and I moved inside because I'm probably a better fit there.

"I feel like I'm really good at both run-blocking and pass-blocking, but if I had to say I'm better at one it would be probably run-blocking. I can pull real well and they ask me to do that a lot."

Recruiting has been pretty steady over the past few weeks with visits from Texas Tech, Iowa State, Arkansas, Minnesota and Kansas and the Jayhawks are the school showing him the most interest right now.

"They really like me a lot inside," Rhaney said. "I'm hoping to get an offer from them by the end of this month (May) and then I hope to have some others come in real soon so I can start to focus on that and who wants me the most."

Rhaney is on pace to finish up his degree in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
