Smith Makes Change; Talks Recruiting

Early in the recruiting process, DT Tysheem Smith (6-2, 300) appears to be one of the top JUCO defensive line prospects on four-year schools' radars. Now that he's decided to transfer from L.A. Pierce for East Central (Miss.) he's set up some unofficial visits to schools who have been showing him quite a bit of interest...

"Things are going good for me," Smith told recently. "I just couldn't afford things out in L.A.

"East Central was the right place for me and I feel like I can really prove myself against top talent this fall."

Last year as a freshman at L.A. Pierce, Smith worked his way into the defensive tackle rotation posting 15 tackles including 3 tackles-for-loss.

With his outstanding size and athleticism, Smith has already garnered three offers -- Bethune-Cookman, Eastern Michigan and Marshall -- and several more schools have picked up the interest in what he has to offer.

"Ole Miss, Miss State, Middle Tennesse, Arkansas State, Florida International, Washington, Marshall and Bethune-Cookman are all recruiting me pretty hard.

"I'm planning to take unofficial visits this summer to see Ole Miss, Marshall and probably Cincinnati too."

Smith is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
