Minster sees recruiting hit full stride

One of the top linebacker prospects in the California JUCO ranks is L.A. Pierce's Jake Minster (6-2, 235). After almost leaving this spring to take some FCS offers, the sure-tackling player decided to return and has seen quite a few FBS programs come into the picture of late...

"Southeastern Louisiana, Grambling St., Gardner-Webb and Wagner all offered me in the spring, but I decided to turn those down and come back to Pierce for another year," Minster told JCFootball.com. "I had a really good spring and things have really picked up for me on the recruiting side of things.

"I just spoke with Coach (Scott) Baumgartner from Nevada and he told me they will be coming after me hard this year. Utah State talked to me and said the same thing as well as did Coach (Matt) Rhule from Temple.

"Villanova was trying to get me in this year and with them possibly going to the Big East, that was pretty big, but they weren't able to get me in, so they will be another school recruiting me."

While he's waiting on his first FBS offer, Minster said he still has the offers from the four schools that offered this spring and he's working on things to show schools he can play D-1 football.

"All of the schools recruiting me this spring said they will take me next year, so I have those four," Minster said. "I've been working on a lot of flexibility stuff and just getting stronger.

"My hips are so much more loose now and that has helped me and that was something schools said they wanted to see more from me."

Minster was solid inside for the Brahmas last fall, posting 65 tackles and 2 interceptions.

He was a full-qualifier out of high school so he can sign with a school at any time, but plans to play at Pierce this fall and will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
