Jacobs hauls in offer from SEC school

One of the top returning JUCO defensive tackle prospects in the country received his first official offer last week and East Mississippi DT Damien Jacobs (6-4, 300) told JCFootball.com more could be on the way...

"I got offered by Tennessee last weekend," Jacobs told JCFootball.com. "Coach (Derek) Dooley was recruiting me when he was at Louisiana Tech and coach (Terry) Joseph was too.

"Coach (Eric) Russell recruited me at Texas Tech, so I know a lot of the coaches there and they said they really want me a lot and that's why they are offering."

In addition to the interest from the Volunteers, Jacobs told JCFootball.com he's also getting some heavy interest from several other schools.

"Miami likes me a lot and they are recruiting me pretty hard," Jacobs said. "Texas A&M is also on me pretty good and Alabama too. Actually there are a lot of schools talking with me right now and they could be offering pretty soon."

As a standout prep at H.L. Bourgeois High School in Gibson, La., Jacobs garnered offers from schools across the country including Arizona, Arkansas, Mississippi, Nebraska and Texas Tech among others, but chose to sign with Florida State.

"I had offers from a bunch of schools, but I chose FSU because of the coaches and the program," Jacobs noted. "After I signed, I wasn't able to qualify, so (Florida State) sent me to East Mississippi and I've really benefited from coming here."

As a freshman last fall, while playing the three-technique, Jacobs posted 48 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss and two sacks.

"I'm more of a run-stopper, but I've really been working on my pass-rush technique and getting more explosive," Jacobs said. "That's what I've always needed to work on and that's what I've worked on since I got here."

Jacobs had hoped to re-sign with the Seminoles, but said that isn't the plan anymore and that he's open to any school that wants to offer.

Jacobs is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
