Five offers and counting for Hawkins

A player becoming a one of the more high sought-after JUCO prospects is NW Mississippi OT Donald Hawkins (6-5, 320) and recently the talented offensive lineman hauled in his fifth offer...

"I just got offered the other day by Kansas State," Hawkins told JCFootball.com. "It's my fifth offer and more schools are really showing me a lot of interest so I feel like I could see a couple more come in pretty soon."

The four other schools to offer Hawkins in addition to the Wildcats are Kentucky, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Oklahoma State and he visited Stillwater, Oklahoma recently to see what the Cowboys have to offer.

"I just went up there to see what their program was all about," Hawkins said. "They have great facilities and I really like the staff there."

want to see my transcripts to make sure and everything, but they said if I can get out in December, they were going to offer," Hawkins noted.

As a prep at Rosa Fort High School in Tunica, Ms., Hawkins drew a lot of attention from schools in the SEC, ACC and Big 12, however he was unable to qualify, so he decided to go the JC route.

"I knew I could play D-1 ball and I wanted to have a chance to do that so I figured Northwest was the right place for me to be," Hawkins said.

As a freshman, Hawkins held down the left side of the Rangers' offensive line and said he learned a lot in his first year of college football.

"I've always been a better pass-blocker, but I can run-block well too," Hawkins said. "I love going up against defensive ends one-on-one and just battling it out.

"I learned some different techniques and different things. The guys here are fast, so you have to be ready for that, but I think I handled it pretty well and I'm just focused on improving this summer in all aspects."

Hawkins maintains he is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
