Coahoma's Williams commits to C-USA school

Coahoma DE Adam Williams (6-3, 250) has proven to be one of the up-and-coming JUCO defensive line prospects this year and late Monday night he made the decision to end the recruiting process early and join one of the first two schools to extend him an offer...

"I committed to Southern Miss tonight," an excited Adam Williams told "I actually have had an offer from them for a while and I decided just a little while ago that I wanted to call them and make a decision.

"I called coach (Deke) Adams and told him I wanted to commit. I woke him up, but when he understood I was committing to them he was pretty excited and happy about the news."

In addition to his offer from the Golden Eagles, Williams also had an offer from Marshall and was getting some heavy interest from Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Iowa State.

"I just didn't think it would benefit me to wait for Mississippi and Mississippi State when I had an offer from a staff that wants me," Williams said. "If those two wanted to offer me, then it might make me look at them a little more, but I don't know about that right now because it hasn't happened."

As a freshman at Coahoma last fall, Williams posted over 40 tackles and five sacks while playing both the strong and weakside linebacker positions.

"I'm a good run-stopper, but I'm working on getting better at pass-rushing too," Williams said. "I've been working on my hands and coming off the ball faster.

"I have good speed (4.6) for my size and I think I surprise some people, but I want to get quicker and use my hands better so that's what I've been working a lot on this summer."

Williams enjoyed a solid prep career at Tunica (Ms.) Rose Fort High School, but was unable to get a qualifying test score.

He is on pace to graduate in December and he will have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
