2011 Team Preview: Allan Hancock

Allan Hancock struggled to a disappointing 3-7 record in 2010, but head coach Kris Dutra is hopeful an influx of some young playmakers helps the Bulldogs rebound this fall. Even though they are young this year, that doesn't mean there aren't some solid sophomores to keep an eye on this fall...

"We are just so young this year, it will be sorta a 'wait-and-see' on some guys, but we're pretty excited about some of the guys we brought in," Dutra told JCFootball.com recently. "For instance, our quarterbacks will all be freshmen and our receivers are all brand new too, so we're young at some important spots, but we have some older guys on defense and a couple of guys on offense that are really solid, solid players."

With that in mind, here is a look at the top prospects on both sides of the ball and what makes them players to watch...

Offense

RB Chris Barnwell - "We are really excited to have Chris back this year. He's got tremendous lower-body strength and he's a really physical runner. He can be a combo guy because he can catch the ball well and he's elusive for a guy his size. He's probably going to have a lot of schools looking at him this fall."

TE Stephen Buring - "He's about 6'3, 265 and he's a player that has just gotten better and better since he got here. He's a great blocker and that's probably what he does best right now, he's really a physical blocker, but he's gotten better as a receiver and this year he'll be a combo-guy for us."

Defense

DL Keppa Nakaahiki - "Keppa is real versatile. He can play almost anywhere along the line -- either defensive end or even some nose tackle. He's a powerful guy. He isn't very tall and that's probably his only downfall, but he's strong and he's probably the strongest guy in our program right now."

LB Jamen Albarado - "Jamen is a guy who just loves to run and hit. He's quick and really a good player. He'll be at middle linebacker for us this year, but he could play outside at the next level if that's where he was needed."

LB Cody Berry - "Cody is a real cornerstone for us on defense. We love his abilities to be a leader out there for us. He's really athletic, he's a great student and he's a really smart player. He's really well-rounded."

S Chris Wheeler - "He was All-Conference last year and he's a real ballhawk who can also lay you out because he's such a physical hitter. He's 6'1, 200, so he can drop down and play strong safety, but he'll be our free safety where he can be the 'center fielder' back there for us."

CB Bennie Garrett - "He's not very big, but he's really physical for a guy his size. He's about 5'9, 180 and he's probably one of our best coverage guys."

CB Ehi Okoh - "He's already got a D-1 body (6'1, 185) so he's got the natural size and skills, but you have to see how he develops this year. He's got legit 4.4 speed to go with all of that size, so he's a special athlete. This is only his second year of playing football, so we'll need to see how he develops, but his best football is ahead of him. That's for sure."
