"We have some really good returning players, but we also loaded up with some great freshman, probably the best freshman class we've had, and they should be contributors all over our roster this year," Mazzotta told JCFootball.com. "We return quite a few starters from our bowl team last year and we think we have a great mix that will help us be really tough this fall.
"We're young on offense this year, but we have some really talented freshmen and on defense with our returning guys and the new kids coming in, we are three deep."
With that in mind, here's a look at Cerritos' top prospects on both sides of the ball...
QB B.J. Denker - "We are real young on offense, but we're lucky to have two third-year players returning to lead us and provide that leadership to the young guys we have. B.J. is 6'3, 190 and he added 20 pounds during his redshirt season last year. He's one of the fastest guys we have on offense. He probably runs a high 4.4, low 4.5 and he's probably going to be more of the runner between our two quarterbacks."
QB Morgan Fennell - "He's also really athletic, but he's probably more of your pocket-passer. He played at Long Beach Poly, so he comes from a great program and he's mature and has a lot of leadership qualities. It's a great battle going on between these two and they will both play this year."
RB Cory Westbrook - "He was a full-qualifier and he played in the first couple of games for us last year, but then he got injured and missed most of the rest of the season, but he played in a game late because that's the kind of person he is. He had a knee injury get cleaned up this past spring, it wasn't anything serious, just more of a minor thing, but we're still waiting to get him back healthy. He's 6'0, 215 and he will play this year, but we have some really talented freshman backs coming in so he'll get touches and he's got to make the most of them."
RB Thomas Gray - "He sat out last year (2010), but this year he'll be here. He's about 5'9", 185 pounds and he can just fly. He's got a ton of speed."
WR Lindsey Anderson - "Lindsey has really developed like crazy this year. He's our go-to receiver. He can run well, but really he can do it all -- short, intermediate, deep -- he can run any route we ask him to."
WR Silver Vaifanuk - "He's more of a slot guy with his size (5'9", 190). He's quick, but he's got good speed (4.5) too."
WR Robert Abeyta - "He's another guy who could leave early, but he'll need to graduate in the summer next year, so we'll see with him. He's a talented kid though."
TE Clark Evans - "Real talented kid. He'll be a big-time D-1 recruit. He signed with Colorado out of high school and ran into some grade troubles there. We got him this year and we're really excited about what he can do for us this year."
TE Jeff Lavulo - "We're blessed with two really athletic tight ends. Jeff is Fred's brother. He's a really talented kid too and he'll play a lot for us this year."
OL Miguel DeLaRossa - "Miguel is talented enough to play anywhere along the offensive line, but he'll be at left tackle for us this year. Strong kid. Really physical and has good feet."
OL Adrew Weidel - "He's very strong and really aggressive. He started at guard for us last year and he's going to be inside there for us this year."
OL Brandon Davidson - "He's really smart. He was valedictorian of his high school senior class. He will be our right tackle this year and he'll get some offers. My guess is he'll go to one of the big-time academic schools."
DT Fred Lavulo - "Fred's a great player. Just strong and a really hard worker. We love him inside and he's our rock in there."
DE Alauna Finau - "He's a major D-1 guy. He can do everything -- stop the run, rush the passer -- so he's going to get a lot of attention this year.
DT Lawrence Lehauli - "He'll be inside, right next to Fred and he'll rotate with one of our freshmen (Kyle Peko). He's a three or one-tech and he'll be a strong guy inside for us."
LB Josh Finau - "He's a returning starter and he really worked hard in the weight-room this offseason and he looks great right now. He can do it all too."
Dominick Sierra - "He played special teams for us last year and he's really developed into a solid player and he'll be at one of our outside spots this year."
Donovan Amituanai - "He was at El Camino last year and then transferred here. He's an older guy. He's a run-stopper, but he can fly around from sideline-to-sideline and he just makes plays all over."
LB Keshaun Malone - "He's an ex-QB so he's smart and he's really filled out nicely. He's a big guy -- 6'3", 245 -- so he can do a lot for us and he'll be and inside 'backer for us."
CB Tommy Elliot - "He got a medical redshirt in 2009 and then played for us in 2010. He's quick and smart."
CB Dwan Gill - "He was our nickle corner last year and he's really turned into a dynamic player for us."
S Chris Metcalf - "Started at safety all year next to Keith McGill and he'll be our free safety this fall. Really athletic and really smart. Should be highly-recruited this year."
S Daniel Roundtree - "Came over to us from El Camino and will be our strong safety this year. Real physical kid. He likes to be in the box and around the action. He can cover too."
