NJCAA Season Kicks Off This Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The opening weekend of the 2011 NJCAA football season is set to take place Aug. 25-27 with several great matchups on the docket, including a rematch of the 2010 NJCAA Football Championship Game between No. 1 Navarro (Texas) and No. 3 Butler (Kan.).

In all 14 teams ranked in the NJCAA Preseason Top 25 will take the field during the opening weekend.

The slate of games for Thurs., Aug. 25 is highlighted by the rematch between Navarro and Butler. The Grizzlies will travel to Texas seeking revenge after falling 13-12 on a last minute field goal to the Bulldogs in last year's national title game. The two teams also opened the season against one another a year ago with Butler pulling out a 16-10 win.  The Navarro – Butler contest is part of the annual conference challenge series between the Kansas Jayhawk (KJCCC) and Southwest JC Football (SWJCFC) conferences. Also on Thursday, fourth-ranked Blinn (Texas) travels to Fort Scott (Kan.) and No. 6 Hutchinson (Kan.) hosts Kilgore (Texas) as part of the series.

The only contest on the schedule Friday, Aug. 26 features Rochester (Minn.) versus Northland (Minn.), which is the first contest of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference's Kick Off Classic at Husky Stadium on the campus of St. Cloud University in St. Cloud, Minn. The event continues the following day with four contests, including No. 21 Central Lakes (Minn.) against Fond du Lac (Minn.)

A wide range of non-conference games and contests against non-NJCAA member colleges fills up the schedule for Saturday, Aug. 27. The top matchup of the day is again in KJCCC - SWJCFC Challenge when #14 Trinity Valley (Texas) plays at #23 Independence (Kan.).
