2011 Team Preview: Mesa

New Mesa head coach Greg Croshaw brings his 214-54 record to the Thunderbirds in the hopes of reviving a program that went 1-9 in 2010. While the legendary coach and his staff have their work cut out for them, it isn't like they are starting from scratch. Here is a look at some of the players to keep an eye on this fall and into the future...

QB Justin Sieczkowski, a transfer from Arizona State, enrolled at Mesa this spring and was named a team captain.

He will have some nice weapons at his disposal in running backs Michael Allen, Kelvin Pruitt and Terrance Anthony who should be the three headed monster for the Thunderbirds' rushing attack this fall.

When Sieczkowski drops back to pass, Slye Hardwick will be the main target along with some youngsters who have yet to establish themselves.

Up front, David Griffin is a D-1 caliber player who was a full-qualifier out of high school. He should get plenty of attention after the season as schools look to add a talented player with four years to play three.

C Bobby Gay and G Patali Sili have aspirations at the next level as well and both return as leaders along the offensive line.

On defense, Ed Atanoa was named the defensive team captain and he'll be in the middle with Preston Hamlett making plays from the outside.

DE Ulysses Aaron is the other defensive player to keep an eye on. With his 6'4", 260-pound frame, he could prove to be a big-time recruit before it's all said and done.

Mesa opened the season last week with a 49-2 win over the Arizona All-Stars and will kickoff league play this week with a tilt against Snow College on Saturday, September 3rd.
